EnSpire Founder Grants provide up to £1,000 to support early-stage startup teams in taking their next step – whether that’s building a prototype, developing a website, or meeting potential clients.

Funding can be used for a wide range of startup-related costs, including:

  • Prototype development
  • Website or branding design
  • Customer discovery and outreach
  • Meeting potential clients or partners

Grants are awarded on a rolling basis and include regular check-ins with the EnSpire team to ensure meaningful progress. These grants are designed to give Oxford’s founders the resources and encouragement they need to move from idea to implementation.

Who is it for?

The grants are open to the entire University of Oxford community, including:

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Researchers
  • Staff
  • Alumni (within 2 years of graduation)

They are suitable for early-stage teams and individuals who are ready to make practical progress on their venture. Applicants must be developing an idea that is still at an early stage, with a focus on moving towards proof of concept, customers, or growth.

How the funding works

Each successful applicant can receive up to £1,000. A short budget plan will be required, and payments can be made directly to suppliers (via invoice) or to the applicant through the University’s finance system.

Alongside the funding, EnSpire provides regular check-ins to track progress and offer guidance, ensuring the grant is used effectively to move ventures forward.

How to apply

Applications are open on a rolling basis during the academic year, with grants awarded until the fund is fully allocated. There is no single deadline – applications are reviewed continuously.
